Arm Contouring (Brachioplasty) is performed to sculpt the upper arms where an accumulation of fat deposits has not responded to diet and exercise or loose skin is the result of weight loss. Arm Contouring can be performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures to give the patient the optimal body contour they desire.
1. Indications for Arm Contouring Surgery
a. To improve the overall contour of the upper arms.
b. To improve the physical appearance of an individual who, despite diet and exercise, cannot eliminate excess fullness in the upper arms.
c. To reduce the excessive loose skin of the upper arms after major weight loss.
2. Procedure Summary
a. Arm Contouring is performed under general anesthesia or deep sedation (for small areas) as an outpatient in the Plastic Surgery Center of West Georgia Ambulatory Surgery Center.
b. Every precaution is taken to ensure patient safety.
c. An incision is made in the axillary area (armpit) or along the inner arm. The incisions depend on the amount of skin to be removed as well as any accumulation of fat deposits.
3. Recovery
a. The patient is placed in a compression wrap that will stay in place until the next day post-operative visit.
b. Patient is given several levels of pain medications for proper and effective pain control. Most patients complain of soreness rather than severe pain.
c. Light activities may be resumed within a week. In two to three weeks, patient may slowly resume normal activities and be unrestricted at three weeks.
d. Sutures or tapes are removed in a week to ten days.
4. Administrative
a. Arm Contouring Surgery is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance.
b. Fee Quotes are given at the time of consultation and range from $5,000 to $7,500. This includes the Physician Charge, Facility Fee, Anesthesia Fee, Pre-Operative Visit, Post-Operative Visits for Up to Six (6) Months, Dressings and Garments.
