A Classical Abdominoplasty can be performed to remove the excess skin and fullness of the abdomen and tighten the abdominal muscles. For some patients, a Mini-Abdominoplasty might be recommended because of better skin elasticity and less fullness usually limited to loose skin only below the navel.
1. Indications for Abdominoplasty

2. Procedure Summary
a. Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient in the Plastic Surgery Center of West Georgia Ambulatory Surgery Center.
b. Every precaution is taken to ensure patient safety.
c. An incision is made in a football-shaped pattern from hipbone to hipbone and the excess skin and fatty tissue is removed. Overstretched abdominal muscles are then tightened in the midline and the skin is pulled together with sutures, narrowing the waistline and firming the abdomen. Dr. Kahler will then create a new navel.
d. Patients usually go home with an On-Q Pain Pump for better control of pain in the first 72 hours.
3. Recovery
a. The patient is placed in a compression wrap that will stay in place until the next day post-operative visit.
b. Patient is given several levels of pain medications for proper and effective pain control. Most patients find the discomfort quite tolerable.
c. Light activities may be resumed within a week. In two to three weeks, patient may slowly resume normal activities and be unrestricted at 4-6 weeks.
d. Sutures or tapes are removed in a week to ten days.
4. Administrative
a. Abdominoplasty is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance.
b. Fee Quotes are given at the time of consultation and range from $5,500 (for some mini-abdominoplasty) to $8,800 (depending on what adjunctive procedures may be required). This generally includes the Physician Charge, Facility Fee, Anesthesia Fee, Pre-Operative Visit, Post-Operative Visits for Up to Six (6) Months, Dressings and Garments, and Pain Pump Costs.
