1. Indications for Breast Augmentation (Enlargement)
a. Breasts that are too small or underdeveloped.
b. Lack of normal proportion in relation to overall body type
c. To balance breast asymmetry (one breast larger than other)
d. To improve lack of fullness after childbirth or weight loss
2. Procedure Summary
a. Breast Augmentation is performed under local anesthesia with deep sedation or general anesthesia as an outpatient in the Plastic Surgery Center of West Georgia Ambulatory Surgery Center.
b. Every precaution is taken to ensure patient safety.
c. The implant is usually placed under the chest wall muscle within a pocket that has been created by Dr. Kahler.
3. Implants
a. Implants are silicone shells filled with saline (sterile salt water).
b. The FDA has approved the use of third generation Silicone Gel implants and which may have advantages for a variety of reasons.
c. Every attempt is made to achieve the desired breast size and shape.
d. Dr. Kahler chooses Mentor breast implants because of their effectiveness in achieving an optimal result as well as their reputation of safety and long-term effectiveness.
4. Recovery
a. The patient is placed in an ace wrap that must stay in place until next day post-operative visit.
b. Patient is given several levels of pain medications for proper and effective pain control. Most patients complain of soreness rather than pain.
c. Light activities may be resumed within a week. In two to three weeks, patient may slowly resume normal activities and be unrestricted at three weeks.
d. Sutures or tapes are removed in a week to ten days.
5. Administrative
a. Breast Augmentation is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance.
b. Fee Quotes are given at the time of consultation and range from $3,950 to $5,500 (depending on what implant or adjunctive procedures may be required). This includes the Physician Charge, Facility Fee, Anesthesia Fee, Pre-Operative Visit, Post-Operative Visits for Up to Six (6) Months, Dressings and Garments, and Implant Costs.
c. Mentor Extended Warranty is an additional optional one-time cost.
