Eyelid Surgery in Carrollton, West Georgia

Eyelid Surgery can be performed to reduce the visible signs of aging by removing the excess skin of the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid Surgery can correct droopiness of the upper eyelids and puffiness of the lower eyelids. Eyelid Surgery can be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures for an optimal result.

1. Indications for Eyelid Surgery

a. To correct excess, droopy skin of the upper eyelids
b. To improve puffiness in the lower eyelid regions.
c. To achieve a natural, more youthful appearance.
d. Upper eyelid surgery is medically indicated in severe cases if vision is obscured.

2. Procedure Summary

a. Eyelid Surgery is performed under local anesthesia with heavy sedation or general anesthesia as an outpatient in the Plastic Surgery Center of West Georgia Ambulatory Surgery Center.
b. Every precaution is taken to ensure patient safety.
c. Incisions are made in the crease of the upper eyelid to remove excess skin in this region. The lower eyelid is approached from the inside of the eyelid, or underneath the lash line if skin is to be removed.
d. A lower eyelid chemical peel is often recommended for an optimal result.

3. Recovery

a. Special dressings will stay in place until the next day post-operative visit.
b. Patient is given several levels of pain medications for proper and effective pain control. Most patients find the discomfort quite tolerable.
c. Light activities may be resumed within a week. In two to three weeks, patient may slowly resume normal activities and be unrestricted at 2-3 weeks.
d. Sutures or tapes are removed in 5 to 7 days.

4. Administrative

a. Eyelid Surgery is considered a cosmetic procedure and is normally not covered by insurance. However, if vision is obscured because of the excess skin of the upper eyelid, additional peripheral vision testing will be ordered and submitted to the insurance company for Prior Approval.
b. Fee Quotes are given at the time of consultation and range from $2,500 to $5,500 (depending on what adjunctive procedures may be required). This generally includes the Physician Charge, Facility Fee, Anesthesia Fee, Pre-Operative Visit, Post-Operative Visits for Up to Six (6) Months, Dressings and Garments.
